Based on their own question – in line with the annual theme of the IDA modules – the students develop their own visual project, which can be documentary or fictional. They draw on existing skills and learn how to use different media (photography, video, animation, mixed media, illustration, etc.).
One focus is on their own thematic research, which is discussed and critically reviewed and further developed in terms of the quality of its content. Questions about dramaturgy and the relationship between research, material and presentation are discussed in regular individual coaching sessions and group discussions.
Whilst developing their visual project, the students receive input on research methods and dramaturgy and get to know the work of various visual storytellers who differ significantly from each other in their working methods, the media they use and their projects.
For the students’ respective projects, individual presentation solutions will be found through open discourse and exchange within the group. The aim is to experiment, possibly to experience the creative potential of failure, but above all to listen to oneself and one's own interests and intentions and to develop and pursue one's own imagination.
